• Individuals With Disabilities Education Act 2004 (IDEA) - Designed to ensure that all students receive a “free appropriate public education” in the “least restrictive environment.”
• Assistive Technology Act of 1998 (ATA) - Under the new ATA, all states and outlying areas are eligible to receive 10 years of federal funding for their state assistive technology program. States that have completed 10 years may receive 3 additional years of federal funding (the new Rehabilitation Act).
• Technology Related Assistance for Individuals With Disabilities Act 1988 (amended 1994, 1998) - Authorizes the National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research (NIDRR) to fund state projects that result in positive change in AT devices and services for persons with disabilities in each state.
• Americans With Disabilities Act P.L. 101-306 - Enacted in 1990 to provide protection for people with disabilities against discrimination on the basis of their disability.
• Carl D. Perkins Vocational Applied Technology Act - Federal grant that funds secondary and post secondary vocational and technical programs with an emphasis on challenged and disadvantaged populations.
• Rehabilitation Act of 1973 - Develops and implements through research, training and services for persons with disabilities to improve independent living and vocational opportunities (The old Assistive Technology Act).
